Happy thoughts from our Zen Life clients

Let me be the first to tell you that I have tried almost all Zen courses out there. And, every time I have failed. Well, Zen Life was a totally different way of seeing things. And, I am now in the second stage of my Zen training and have not failed so far. My aurora might not be as clear as others, but I will get there with Zen Life - mark my words!

What can I say? I was once a person with no meaning in life. My life was empty and I felt like a loser. A close friend of mine gave me a link to Zen Life and my life is suddenly a life with a purpose. I have never felt this way before and I recommend it to all people I meet on my path to becoming 100% Zen.

A bright light in the shape of a Zen Life membership changed me as a whole. I have had success in my past life, but now I know it was the wrong kind of success. Right now, I am able to levitate 11 inches and I plan to reach 20 inches before the new year.

Recently we proudly re-designed and launched Black Jacket Suiting – blackjacketsuiting.com.au

Black Jacket Suiting is a Multi-Award Winning Men’s Suits Shop down in Bulimba. I’ve been there many times now, but I remember the first time. Man, it was classy, prestigious, and somehow welcoming all in one. They had an incredible site…. But, they also had this.

It was built in Squarespace, and like most sites, they look great at the time but this one aged quickly.

Ryan (the founder) has an incredible vision and mission for his business and his website was not able to get him there. When he first approached us here were some of the important things their company was looking for:

  • A new clean and unique style guide that portrays Trust, Sophistication, Confidence, Luxury and Friendliness.
  • Consistent styling across all pages
  • A full-featured blog
  • eCommerce capabilities with credit card integrations
  • Highly customized product and order pages – where users can book an appointment directly from the product page
  • Users need to be able to create an account and save their measurements in the website’s database so every time they order a suit, they won’t have to remeasure.
  • Galleries with Instagram integrations
  • Unique Measurement forms so users can easily get their own measurements and submit them.
  • 6 specific landing pages for each product offering.
  • Full booking integration with some appointments being pay in advance

Regardless of who builds your website, if you miss this step your website will fail.

This is a step that most new businesses miss. There are 1.8 Billion websites in the world and almost half of them get NO traffic!

In addition to these requirements, we were working with an SEO firm who had already spent years optimising their website for traffic. This firm had been doing a creative job and traffic was hitting their site! The problem was the site wasn’t converting. One of our challenges was to build a website that would not only convert well, but we needed to avoid any negative impact on existing search engine rankings.

This was a wonderful project to be involved in and everyone involved was ecstatic with the results.  Here are some images from the project. If you want to see the new site you can visit it here: blackjacketsuiting.com.au

Child themes are themes which inherit properties, functionalities, and styling of another theme called the parent theme. Child themes allow you to modify only a part of the total theme that you are using without modifying the complete theme. Modifying a whole theme often creates problems when you upgrade to a higher version, on WordPress. Child theme allows you to create a separate set of files using which you can modify the theme without affecting the code of the original theme. That is why child themes should be the preferred format of modifying a theme.

WordPress checks the child theme first for a particular functionality and if it does not exist, then WordPress checks its parent theme for the functionality. According to ‘ElegantThemes’, 85% of WordPress users modify themes but only 35% use child themes. The reason could be a lack of knowledge about child themes or perceived difficulty in creating one.

Reasons for using child themes

• Makes updates easier: If you update without a child theme, you can either update or lose the changes that you have made to the theme or not update it at all. Of course, not updating the themes, plugins, and the software WordPress would make it outdated, and cause it to lose efficiency. Security may also be compromised.
• Makes the process of development easier: If you decide to make an update without a child theme, you may be adding snippets of code to the code base of the original theme, which could run into hundreds if not thousands of lines. That means, tracking the changes may become cumbersome later on. It makes more sense to make changes to the child theme which contains less number of files and also less code to handle. That makes the documentation process easier.
• Makes reverting to the original condition easier: If you think that customization of the theme did not go according to your plan, you can simply disable the child theme, and everything would go back to the original state.

Steps for creating a child theme

A child theme can be created by following these simple steps:

1. A theme directory needs to be created in the WordPress install.
2. A style sheet with appropriate information about your child theme has to be created.
3. You may now use the functionalities of the parent theme.
4. Activate the child theme, and the WordPress site would look like the original.

Conclusion

A child theme has a lot of advantages and is easy to use, contrary to popular belief. If you are a designer who makes frequent changes to your WordPress supported blog or website, start using child themes and enjoy the advantages.

Reasons Why You Need a Responsive Web Design https://davespicer.com.au/reasons-need-responsive-web-design/ https://davespicer.com.au/reasons-need-responsive-web-design/#respond Sat, 14 Jan 2017 17:18:01 +0000 http://stackddesign.com/?p=349 As the usage of mobile devices picks up, sites that do not adopt a mobile-friendly format are at risk of being left behind in the race. As the usage of mobile devices picks up, sites that do not adopt a mobile-friendly format are at risk of being left behind in the race. Our Brisbane digital marketing agency tells you how adopting a responsive design can help you garner more customers, more profits, and better SEO rankings in the long run.

Better traffic and conversions

55 percent users access sites on their mobile devices, while over 20 percent of Google searches are carried out in mobile devices. The bottom line is, businesses cannot afford to not adopt a responsive design, as it would mean missing out on a large number of customers.

It isn’t just high website traffic why you should be considering a responsive design. Statistics reveal that a well-designed responsive site increases the odds of the user buying the product/service by 67 percent. Simply put, that means an easy-to-use responsive site can drive up your conversion rate, confirm Brisbane web design agency.

Search engine rankings

Responsive design is indispensable for your SEO strategy. In fact, Google considers responsive design as a strong parameter while indexing sites, and ranking them. Better click-through-rates and lower bounce rate are a given when you have a responsive design.

Sites that do not have a mobile-friendly responsive design observe greater number of visitor exits and higher bounce rate. This means, the absence of a responsive design can hurt your website SEO rankings. On the other hand, adopting a responsive site can instantly boost your search engine rankings.

Focused marketing efforts

Some businesses look at setting up a mobile-version of their desktop site as an alternative to a responsive site. A mobile site is an exclusive site that is especially made for mobile devices and uses a separate URL when compared to the desktop version of the site. On the other hand, a responsive site has unified code across all devices, and merely adapts to the screen size of the device that it is being viewed on.

So when you set up an exclusive mobile-version of the site, you need to work on dedicated SEO strategy for both desktop and mobile versions. However, when you have a responsive version of the site, all your site marketing efforts and click-throughs from various devices are associated with just one site. This means, you will be spending lesser time and money, on online marketing, and all your marketing efforts will be directed at one site.

Why is Interactivity an Important Element in Website Design? https://davespicer.com.au/interactivity-important-element-website-design/ https://davespicer.com.au/interactivity-important-element-website-design/#respond Sat, 10 Dec 2016 16:59:35 +0000 http://stackddesign.com/?p=348 Your website gives your customers an insight into your business. Your website gives your customers an insight into your business. A well-designed and interactive website leaves a very good first impression on your customer which can go a long way into building a successful relationship. All successful websites use the art of engaging their site visitors to reduce the bounce rate of the website or a particular resource page on the website. It is now well-known that Google or other search engines consider bounce rate as one of the parameters of ranking a website.

In order to make your website attractive, you have to meld the best practices of website design template with appropriate content creation to improve user experience. So what are some of the things your website needs to be interactive?

  • Use a non-linear tree structure: Your visitors would be primarily looking for convenience of navigation. To improve navigability, you have to consider the ‘tree structure’ concept of design, which would allow the visitors to move from one page to another within the website in a non-linear way. Use of hyperlinks strategically is highly recommended. Also see that the logo on the top of each page is linked to the home page. Never clutter a page. Each and every element making the page should be prominent and eye-catching. Using proper categories, lists and breaking the texts into small paragraphs help in improving the navigability.
  • Make the CTAs conspicuous: Are you making the call-to-actions engaging? Are these really getting the kind of attention from the site visitors that they deserve? If not, you have not done it right. Use different colors, hyperlink these with the subscription page, purchase page or sign-up page. Optimize the size of the CTA button or hyperlink if you really wish to make your website responsive, because in this age of smart phone omnipresence, most of your visitors would interact with your website through their smart phones.
  • Engaging content: A lot of websites tend to overlook this aspect of interactivity. Ultimately, a visitor comes to your website looking for something. If you can’t provide them with the right content, they won’t stay. So make sure to have a good blend of updated blog posts, case studies, relevant videos, engaging web copies to keep them interested.
  • Carry out surveys: A survey can have multiple benefits. It can help you get incisive knowledge about your customer/visitor, as well as finding out what they want from the website or the business per se. You can then integrate these elements to improve the user experience and ultimately get more conversions.

For any modern business, having a website is as imperative as having a name or a logo. This is what carves your unique identity in the digital world. So do not ignore the aspect of interactivity while designing your website. It can be damaging to your business or brand image.

You got a company website because you wanted to inform your target audience about the products or services offered by your company. Another aim could be to create a strong brand positioning. But for that you need to establish a strong relationship with your audience and also empower them. But what is the ultimate aim?

That would be to convert the target and to make them respond to a particular call that you have generated. Here, a landing page can help you.

A landing page is one of the best ways to make a CTA work. Here are some tips that will help you to turn your ordinary landing page into a great one.

  1. The first thing you should do is create a riveting copy, consistent with your brand and the offer. The copy should be about the customers. It should tell them why they will benefit if they respond to this CTA. Find out the pain points and concerns of your prospects. The copy will have to succinctly and unambiguously inform the audience about the benefits.
  1. Next, you have to think how you are going to make the landing page visually appealing. The headlines and the subheads should be terse and address the prospect directly. These should summarize the essence of the copy and the CTA and impel the prospect to continue reading. The copy should include a lot of actionable words, especially in the CTA.
  1. If you are using images, see that they are appropriate to your overall brand image and to your offer. They should support the effort, not overshadow it.
  1. The CTA will have to stand out in a way that it grabs maximum attention. Insert the text in a large three-dimensional tab or use any design that makes it look cool and gets attention. The text and the visual cues together, make the CTA work.
  1. Colors can have a psychological effect on humans. So make sure that the colors you use don’t scream at the target. Ensure that they (colors) complement each other. Use them in correct proportions. Use white spaces to de-clutter the copy. Find out which typefaces and font size works best for your copy, aesthetically, and also from the point of view of browser acceptance and website responsiveness.

An awesome landing page holds the key to the success of your digital marketing efforts. Use this technique right and see your business prosper.
